Grant Program

MMGY Global in partnership with the Black Travel Alliance, National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals (NCBMP), and the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers (NABHOOD) will use 70% of net proceeds raised from the groundbreaking study The Black Traveler: Insights, Opportunities & Priorities to fund two grants to promote Black travel groups and creators.

The grant entries will be reviewed by Ursula Petula Barzey, Research Committee Chair with the Black Travel Alliance, and Jason Dunn, Immediate Past Chair of the NCBMP, with the support of MMGY Global. The program will kick off by issuing 10 Black Travel Organization Grants, valued at US$5,000 each, to Black travel organizations that help to advance representation, opportunity and equity for Black voices in the travel space. There will also be 20 Black Travel Content Creator Grants, each worth US$1,000, for successful applicants to hone their craft and thereby increase the quality and quantity of Black travel content creators in travel.

Applications for the grants will be accepted until April 30, 2021. Individuals and organizations from the United States, Canada, France, Germany and U.K./Ireland are invited to apply – the countries in which the study was conducted.

Black Travel Organization Grant

The Black Travel Organization Grant is created with the intent of celebrating and benefitting Black travel organizations in the travel industry. The US$5,000 grants are funded from the profits of The Black Traveler study and are given in hopes that these organizations will continue their craft and therefore the advancement of representation, opportunity, and equity for Black voices in the travel space.

  • Who is eligible: Black travel associations, organizations, charities, community groups, etc. that are legal entities in one of the following countries: United States, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and United Kingdom.
  • Number of grants: 10
  • Grant amount: US$5,000

Black Travel Content Creator Grant

The Black Travel Content Creator Grant is created with the intent of celebrating and benefitting Black content creators in the travel industry. The US$1,000 grants are funded from the profits of The Black Traveler study and are given in hopes that these content creators will further develop their craft and therefore the advancement of representation, opportunity, and equity for Black voices in the travel space.

  • Who is eligible: Black travel content creators 18 years or older who are local and legal residents of one of the following countries: United States, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and United Kingdom. Black Travel Content Creators including travel authors, bloggers, broadcasters, journalists, photographers, podcasters, social media influencers, and vloggers.
  • Number of grants: 20
