PR Senior Account Executive

NJF – the PR, Social Media, and Experiential Marketing practice of top travel marketing firm MMGY Global – has an immediate opening for a Senior Public Relations Account Executive in our New York office. 

The Senior Account Executive (SAE) is responsible for the execution of PR campaigns for a variety of client accounts with a primary focus on high-level media relations, managing day-to-day account activity, and developing relationships with key client decision makers. He/She takes a more advanced role in the preparation of communications plans and media strategies, drafting and editing press materials, the organization and execution of special events, and driving superior media results.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, plan and implement PR programs for clients 
  • Manage day-to-day account activities; monitor program timetable and client budgets
  • Provide strategic client counsel
  • Maintain a high level of industry and media awareness, keeping abreast of media moves, lifestyle trends, and the current news cycle
  • Develop high-level media contacts for the benefit of the entire agency
  • Analyze editorial calendars and content from lead generation services to identify client and cross agency pitching opportunities
  • Provide creative input and direction to account group, including development of innovative promotions, story ideas, conceptualization of press materials and other client content, knowledge of how to leverage social media in PR programs
  • Develop strategic media pitches (traditional & online media); arrange and qualify press visits; secure local, regional and national media coverage
  • Orchestrate client media events as needed
  • Plan and execute client media tours 
  • Pitch, secure, plan and staff press trips (travel may be required)
  • Demonstrate advanced writing and editing skills
  • Serve as industry partner liaison
  • Attend client and industry meetings and local media events 
  • Begin to supervise/train junior team members 
  • Help develop introductory budget for new business and client programs 
  • Participate in new business and client presentations 
  • Identify and/or seize opportunities for selling projects to client group

Required Skills:                                                

  • Ability to develop and write effective PR plans and client programs 
  • Proven track record of well-targeted media placements and established relationships with media
  • Demonstrable ability to advise and counsel clients, in conjunction with senior management
  • Experience handling launch events, media tours and press trips
  • Solid understanding of social media and how to utilize it
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills
  • Exceptional pitching/writing skills
  • Effective networking
  • Ability to delegate and effectively manage others
  • Sensitivity to deadlines
  • Ability to anticipate needs
  • Sensitive listening skills (from client, supervisor, and media)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks effectively

  • Computer proficiency and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google programs, and office equipment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 4 years of public relations agency experience as a primary client contact preferred; minimum of 4 years in-house experience in a communications role  
  • Must have established media relationships with national consumer/lifestyle and industry travel trade media
  • Travel industry experience or knowledge a plus 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English written and oral skills a plus

Education Requirements:

Minimum of an undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts) in communications, journalism or related field

Reports to: This position reports directly to one or more Account Directors or Senior Account Directors.
