Historic Travel Records for Independence Day 2017
If you’re planning on celebrating Independence Day with a weekend away from home, you’re definitely not alone. This year, holiday travel volume during Fourth of July weekend (from Friday, June 30, to Tuesday, July 4) will mark the highest on record – ever. And it’s no wonder why: Lower gas prices, airfares and car rentals are all making a holiday weekend getaway more affordable.
Here are a few of the travel volume forecasts reported by AAA about this groundbreaking weekend:
- Overall, 44.2 million people are expected to travel this Independence Day weekend, 1.25 million more than last year.
- 37.5 million Americans will drive to their destinations this weekend, an increase of 2.9 percent over last year. This will be the fourth consecutive year of rising auto travel around this holiday.
- 3.44 million people will travel by air this weekend, increasing air travel by nearly 5 percent over last year. This marks the eighth consecutive year of air travel growth around this holiday.
