Field Trip Shows Google Glass’ Potential for Travel Discovery

Robert Patterson

Augmented reality and travel discovery have come to Google Glass. Niantic Labs, a Google owned company has developed and released Field Trip for Glass. The first official Glassware to focus on travel discovery provides users with location-based information based on interests users subscribe to such as “Historic Places and Events,” “Food, Drinks and Fun,” “Cool & Unique” and more. The application works by pushing notifications to Glass when the user is near historic landmarks, attractions or points of interest based on their subscriptions.

The application also known as Glassware, was released ahead of Field Trip Day along side a video showcasing the application’s functionality through a group trip to Napa. The mobile application version of Field Trip has been available on Android and Apple mobile devices for less than a year. It has also been revealed that the application was developed from the start with Glass in mind.

Early reviews for the application from media and users have been overwhelmingly positive. I look forward to testing Field Trip for Glass in the coming days and you can follow my adventures #throughglass on Twitter and Google+.
