Chicago Speakeasy Activation

Kansas City is experiencing a renaissance of arts, culture and cuisine. We were tasked with developing an experience in Chicago that showcased this renaissance in order to increase visitation from the Chicago market.


We transformed The Underground, an actual underground bar in the heart of Chicago, into a not-so-secret speakeasy event. In addition, we:

  • created an immersive Kansas City speakeasy experience in Chicago 
  • invited Chicago media, influencers and meeting planners
  • hosted some of KC's best jazz musicians, chefs and bartenders
  • supplemented event with highly targeted in-market advertising 
  • strengthened visitation interest from Chicago market

Local Chicago media and influencers were mailed VIP invites with a password to the KC speakeasy event.

Secrets Guidebook

We also created a “secret guidebook” that highlighted some of KC’s hidden gems, complete with recommendations on arts, dining, entertainment and more.


Online Sweepstakes

The “Find Your KC Spirit” sweepstakes coincided with the event. Facebook users took the quiz to find their ideal (and real) KC-themed cocktail, and were entered to win a trip to enjoy them in Kansas City.
